Freshen your appearance
with a brighter, lighter smile! Your toothpaste alone
can’t always give you the whitest smile possible. Sometimes
even professional cleaning can’t remove stains that
have penetrated the surface of your teeth.
Bleaching is an effective
technique the dentist can use to whiten teeth and brighten
your smile by removing stains caused by food, tobacco,
coffee, aging, and other sources
Longbranch Dental offers
ZOOM! whitening as seen on ABC's hit
show Extreme Makeover.
The ZOOM!
in-office procedure is simple and painless. The
light-activated gel takes just one hour to make teeth
6 to 10 shades whiter.
Who may benefit from tooth whitening?
Almost anyone! However, treatment may not be as effective for
some as it is for others. we can determine if you
are a good candidate for whitening through a thorough
oral exam.
What causes tooth discoloration?
The most common causes include aging
and the consumption of substances that stain the teeth
such as coffee, tea, cola, tobacco, red wine, etc.
During tooth formation, use of tetracycline, certain
antibiotics, or excessive flouride may also cause
tooth discoloration.
Is whitening safe?
Yes. Extensive research and clinical
studies show that whitening teeth under dentist supervision
is safe. In fact, many dentists consider whitening
the safest cosmetic dental procedure available. As
with any tooth whitening product,
ZOOM! is not recommended for children
under 13 and for pregnant or lactating women.
How does whitening
work?
The light-activated whitening gel's
active ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide. As the gel
is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin
of the teeth, bleaching colored substances while the
structure of the tooth remains unchanged.
What does a patient experience during
the whitening process?
During the procedure patients may
comfortably watch TV or listen to music. (Many actually
fall asleep!) Some individuals with a strong gag reflex,
however, may have difficulty undergoing the entire
procedure.
Are there any side effects?
Sensitivity during the treatment may
occur with some patients. The activating light generates
some heat, which may cause some discomfort. On rare
occasions, minor tingling sensations are experienced
immediately after the prodedure.
How long do the results last?
If you follow the post-whitening care
instructions, your teeth will remain whiter than they
were before the procedure. You will be given a take-home
touch-up kit and trays that can be used whenever discoloration
is noticed. Usually a once a year touch-up will maintain
a whiter smile that sparkles for years.
The degree of whiteness will vary from
patient to patient. Darker stains, such as those caused
by antibiotics, are more difficult to whiten.

Bonding
Bonding applies a tooth-colored
material to the enamel of your teeth to cover discolorations,
repair chips, fill in gaps between teeth, and repair
cracks and breaks.
It is a virtually painless
procedure that can be completed in one visit.
Bonding usually lasts
3-5 years, so it may have to be replaced periodically.
